   Every single ‘software engineer’ I know who has ever over-valued their own work over blue collar work has, without fail, turned out to be MAGAs or incels. They tend to be the people who have their self worth wrapped up in their compensation and status, and are quick to anger when transit workers or delivery drivers, who work long hours in ways that are taxing in every way, break their narrative for themselves

     @snack @skinnylatte I prefer "software developer," because you're creating something, developing it over time, but 99.9% of programming isn't anything like engineering, where everything is mathematically and precisely specified and there are industry wide standards of doing things and such.

     @skinnylatte They aren't real engineers. Call them programmers or coders, but leave the engineer title to people who solve (and create) real world problems.

     You're right about over valuing their work.. and their opinions on other professions.
