I had a dream where rural Americans stopped monoculture farming and halted food exports to the cities. This was the start of the Great Soy & Corn Boycott of 2026.
Day 1, 24 hours without city food imports:
The rich corporate propaganda machine owners declared a media war on farmers. They had plenty of wine and caviar in stock, but the economic impact was going to reduce their purchasing power from three yachts per year down to one, and that could not stand.

Propagandist journos published headlines like “The farmer boycott and why it’s racist” and “Why hasn’t the National Guard shot and killed the farmers yet?”
Hooligans took to the streets to smash and burn anything and everything in protest of the “racist boycott”, however most of their destruction was limited to their own neighborhoods.
President Harris made a statement in support of the protestors, saying the farmers were un-American. Harris asked John Deere to act.

Dawn of the second day:
John Deere activated the previously unknown “Autonomous Farming Protocol” in an attempt to restart corn and soy planting. However, Louis Rossman published a 40 minute video explaining how to repair the tractors and disable the AFP.
Hunger was beginning to set in. Convenience stores, Walmarts, and other processed food shops were robbed and vandalized. Fish, meat, and farmers markets remained unscathed, as most of the rioters had never been to those shops before.

Rural farmers enjoyed meals of venison, beef, roasted garden vegetables, and fresh fruit pastries. If local growing slowed, they all had 3-6 months of canned food in #10 tins in their basements and root cellars.

Day 7:
Under orders from Harris, the Federal government had attempted to seize farmland under eminent domain. In what would later be called “the battle for Hill-country”, farmers used improvised explosives made from their vast store of industrial fertilizers to fend off the government invaders. President Harris secured her personal supply of weed and Xanax, then issued the National Guard to stand down.

Meanwhile, city services have degraded significantly. Litter and trash lined the streets, however there was no smell of rotting food; everything edible had been scavenged. Due to a lack of food refuse, rats have become aggressive and can be seen on the streets in broad daylight.
While many lay about the streets in the city due to exhaustion from hunger and nighttime rioting, very few had died due to the vast levels of obesity prior to the start of the boycott.
…then I woke up.

Good story! Is the USA really that divided in food-producing states and food-consuming states? Here it seems a bit more balanced, although there are big problems as well.
