@Mondobizarrro you have to read and post about adaptations of the Faust legend. any version will do: Goethe's, Marlowe's, Gounod's, Stein's, and Berlioz's are the ones we've talked about on here, but we accept all Faust and Faust-adjacent material
the Faust legend is the story of an erudite man who sells his soul to a demon named Mephistopheles in order to appreciate the more carnal pleasures of life. the rest is very variable depending on what adaptation you read

@Mondobizarrro i was using the term "carnal" in a bit of a broad sense, not just sexual. "carnal" can just sort of mean like, earthly, sensual pleasures: when faust searches for knowledge, it's not divine or sacred knowledge, it's always profane and, well, carnal

@lilli i cannot fucking read and i said cranal instead of carnal. but either way could it be written as a "primal desire of knowledge" then or am i still misunderstanding this?

@Mondobizarrro "primal desire of knowledge" is fair, and points out that Faust seeks not the knowledge he needs but the knowledge he desires, but also, not all Fausts are knowledge-focused; sometimes they desire quite different things
