   It would be better to move away entirely from trains that burn fuel, but at least converting to run on vegetable oil will reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

     @mister_goldfish I agree entirely, but even with the most green-minded establishment it'll take many years to get the knitting up right across the network so anything more sustainable in the short term has to be welcome!

     I'm super-envious of countries with fully electrified rail systems while we've still got diesel main lines and often diesels running under the wires. But that's the story of penny-pinching UK infrastructure spending.
