I just read several responses from lawyers with experience in criminal law, and the best response came from Elizabeth de la Vega.

My view: calm, restrained understatement is most effective.
Responding to Trump's fist-shaking with more fist-shaking elevates Trump.
Smith has the power. Trump has none.
Smith doesn't need to threaten or bluster.
Trump's post doesn't name anyone. He's a mobster. He knows how to give himself deniability.

@Teri_Kanefield To say that Trump has no power is to whistle past a graveyard.
He has no legal power. He had no legal power on Jan 6 and still managed to do a great deal of damage.
One of the two major parties in the US has publicly opted to side with him, in lawlessness, instead of with the law they used claim as their most sacred tenets.

@Teri_Kanefield As a young lawyer, I found that my super power was restraint and understatement. The blowhards just didn't know how to deal with that and it drove them crazy, especially coming from a woman.
