@unabomber It will never be the "year of the Linux desktop", as Linux is only a kernel and doesn't operate on its own.
You need to add at least systemd to make the systemd/Linux OS before you have something that won't just panic() on boot.
As for the year of the GNU/Linux desktop, that was in 1995 or so, as finally you could use a computer in freedom again.
Clearly the end goal is to turn everything into SaaSS, so the suckers don't even get a copy of the software, as you can at least reverse engineer binaries you have copies of.
