A lot of people seem to think that a revolution means, "Starting from scratch." If settlers, imperialists, and authoritarians have taught us anything, it's that there's no societal tabula rasa. To build the new world in the shell of the old means to commit to the additive process of dual power as much as the subtractive process of abolition. Shocks are not a feature to be sought, but a contingency to be avoided wherever possible. Fear and desperation are obstacles, not assets.
