   The BBC's experiment with Mastodon is pathbreaking in English-language news -- a major organization setting up its own instance. They've really thought this through. Key language:

   "We're using social.bbc as the domain, so you can be sure these accounts are genuinely from the BBC. And by linking to and from the BBC’s website, we have verified our identity on Mastodon."

     Biased or not, any news organization that can explain Mastodon and the Fediverse in three sentences is valuable to me.

     This is how it's done.

     So many fail this very first crucial step announcing their presence on the Fedi only on some note but not kn their official website.

     Take notes companies or projects of this world. Announce it proper and link to your accounts so people can tell profile equivalence without having to guess (or know about how subdomains work) to understand something is official and the real thing.
