   It’s just very strange that if I move anywhere it’s just as bright as it is where I am, but there’s practically zero scattering to the sides. That doesn’t make sense.

     Not really because it’s still close so the scattering a lot more obvious. If you were to move to the complete opposite position it would be just as bright, but it appears black even though the reflections are basically random.
