I don’t care what software people use but gargron has, intentionally or not, fostered an incredibly toxic community around his software and firefish seems to be deliberately trying to copy it.
@Pawlicker@CentaurBreeder@firefish they're definitely trying mimic mastodon but you don't have to copy the exact same toxic callout culture of that community to go mainstream
@CentaurBreeder@animeirl@firefish I mean Calckey was like akkoma userbase wise except they're moving to the new model of wanting to be dollar tree Eugen/mastodon. Hence calc moving towards being a firstname lastname online instead of a pseudonymous furry. That's just how I see it as an outsider with experience in adjacent communities.
@Pawlicker@CentaurBreeder@firefish@animeirl i kinda get the point of not wanting to see smth you dislike, but why they don't simply and silently block/mute those accounts instead of making a whole argue about it??
@Moon@CentaurBreeder@firefish@animeirl@coolboymew@dragnucs So I started using fediverse (circa 2017) on SPC and similar instances. There were several major issues. The most prominent issue however was the Skype problem, and this is still a very real thing with the fediverse. Back in the days of Skype, there was always "that one freetard" who would try to get the group on Mumble and it always failed and everyone went back to Skype. It's always excuses or "we're not signing up for that site lol just use Twitter" when there is a very real case of battered wife syndrome, none of them see themselves coming across like a normie bitching about his job but breathing down your neck to get one too.
@Moon@CentaurBreeder@animeirl@coolboymew@dragnucs@firefish There are also many reasons why normies won't touch the fediverse as of now, which include: Instance blocking fragmentation forcing you into an instance that is jannied to shit to talk to someone who insists on using one with jannies. The only artists are Japanese or on baraag of all places, or mastodongers blocking the entire fedi.*wagie boss voice* "why aren't muh numbers high enough"Instance owners shutting down (this is such a serious issue that Bluesky namedropped this as why they like to have a singular identity even though all of us know how this could be misused. If this sounds stupid, remember that a SomethingAwful moderator bought that site out because their posting careers matter that much to them, and ditto with Twitter users who don't scrub their old tweets to keep their numbers high despite making them prone to cancellation.Low amounts of interaction as opposed to Twitter (if you don't spend money on Twitter blue) if you're a nobody screeching into the void. Some poster/eceleb is only on Twitter.Mastodon's UI is trash
@Pawlicker@CentaurBreeder@firefish@animeirl@coolboymew@Moon@dragnucs Jisti is inexcusable. It's web-based and it doesn't require an account to use. You can use any server that hosts Jisti and get your friends to use that. The only reason why my family used Zoom instead during the lockdowns is because it gave my sister an excuse to dance to the intro of the PBS Kids show with the same name.
@Pawlicker we have no excuses now. Most problems are solved. I can just send a link via SMS to people and they manage to install, create an account and contact me on Matrix via Element.
Fedi is also the bleeding edge and most advanced form of social networking. We sure don't have silly features like marketplace but that is out of the scope. @CentaurBreeder@firefish@animeirl@coolboymew@Moon
@Pawlicker@CentaurBreeder@firefish@animeirl@coolboymew@Moon@dragnucs I just wish that there were more gamedevs on here. We can have something akin to the /adgd/ communities you see on many video game imageboards, but the vast majority of fedi gamedevs are on the fediblock side of the fedi. That just shows how pozzed the modern gamedev community is.
I don't want to shill my games on Twitter. I can no longer see an ethical reason to use it.
