I went on a #marketing #podcast with Omniscient Digital, where we talked about:

    - Where the Internet might be headed next + my coup reporting here (5:12)
    - Explaining what #Mastodon, the #Fediverse, and #ActivityPub are (12:56)
    - @pluralistic's "enshittification" as applied to #content (24:29)
    - How being from #Ukraine impacts my business (40:30)

I loved this one, hope some of you might enjoy it too:

      Explaining @pluralistic's "enshittification”:

“Enshittification is this idea that websites and social media companies go through these cycles:

Stage 1 - you're trying to get users on there, to get network effects and to get popular, capture as much market share as possible. So you're giving value to users that is better than anybody else gives them.

      ..”

“I also miss, there used to be these websites, or on most websites you'd have a page with recommendations.

People would curate other websites that others should go to. And that would be how you'd find your stuff, instead of a social media algorithm promoting things to you.
Like the old days of blogging too.”

“Now, I think the Internet 2 years from now will not look like it did for the last 15 years.

I think where it's headed is more fragmented and niche spaces. It might be similar to what it was maybe in the early 2000s, where we had a bunch of forum boards, different sites for different purposes.

It wasn't all one feed, it wasn't all like 2 social networks where you'd get everything. It was more fragmented.
And I think that is where we're headed again.”

"I found myself reporting to 100s of people, live on #Mastodon, about this coup in #Russia.
And it was a big moment. It was kind of the first time on Mastodon that people were able to keep up with current events live, like on Twitter.
It hadn’t happened before. People thought it was impossible, not enough users, without an algorithm nobody could find posts, there wouldn't be enough posts, or loading would be too slow between servers.
But here I was, kind of making social media history.”
