   @bryan "ban cars" is like "abolish prisons" in that, yes, it's not something you can simply do overnight — at least, not if interpreted in the most expansive way — but it points to a vision where these extremely harmful things would not be necessary, and we can take steps toward that vision right now. #BanCars

     I don’t understand the #bancars hashtag. I thought maybe it was just for shock value, but I think its users are just supremely out of touch.

     We’ve spent the last 100 years building sprawl. Banning cars now would be like building cities in space and then banning spacesuits. We need to build places where people can actually live without cars. Advocate for that instead of being a self-righteous punk.
