   Whenever there's an emergency or disaster overseas, they do this. All. The. Time.

   "Over 1000 people were killed, INCLUDING THREE AUSTRALIANS."

   Heavy emphasis on the three Australians.

   The implication being that if Dave from Narre Warren and his two mates weren't unfortunate enough to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, then the other 9,997 people wouldn't rate a mention.

   And then when there's a disaster in some corner of the world that's somehow free of Australian tourists, especially outside a country in the OECD, the story barely gets a mention at all!

     So true though. Empathy in the media just seems to be gone these days.

     Australian news does this all the time. "Three Australians stranded in Bumfuck, middle of nowhere".

     No disrespect meant for the people of Rhodes - the focus has to be on them, on saving them and THEIR homes.

     I‘m finding the narrative over the Rhodes fires really distasteful to be honest. it all seems to be skewed towards the tourists. “tourists are stranded!” “people won’t be able to visit their favourite destination anymore, when can it resume?”

     The Greek residents are losing their fucking homes and livelihoods you ignorant gits, fuck your holiday. Show some respect
