   @lkngrrr @DarcMoughty I did a long post on material science a bit back.

   Key line: "As science accelerates, we are discovering fascinating new materials which promise to revolutionize what we build,
   how we build it, and what it is we can actually build."

   I don't think we run out of carbon based material any time soon. And many of the majors recognize the opportunity isn't in carbon, but in materials. See the Aramco post too.

   I am optimistic most of all because of science!

     @DarcMoughty Rando PP and PE can be done with short chain polycarbons, totally. My consumer grade plastic crap isn’t going anywhere (though I’m interested to see if we turn more towards textiles and composites).

     The really crazy boutique stuff, like liners and substrates in biologics for example, where we haven’t figured out alternate long polycarbon chain sources, worries me a bit more.
