That looks like a damn vine borer got into it. Bury further up the plant so it's covered in soil and it may recover.

Oh, wow... I have now learned there are round zuchinni. That is freakin' awesome. I will have to look for those next year.

@lpheathen2 i babied the hell out of it for a while cuz it wilted all teh time for weeks, i'd give it extra drinks of water all the time and some fertilizer spike i thought he was doing amazing once he finally stopped wilting, then one day i noticed his stalks busted open and i was like "WHAT", but it's still chugging along. despite htat.

@Zealist Good ol squash reroot quite well, the bigger they get. It’s what helps keep the vine borers at bay. We got hit hard this year with vine borers. Got as much as we could and pulled all the plants. I’m just doing peppers and tomatoes right now.

@lpheathen2 these are ones i plan to have going in the garage over winter, beef steaks and a couple red cherry, and a grape cutting, i need more big pots to root some more cuttings off hte orange ones i got that are big bushy plants right now trying to ripen tons of tomatoes.

@lpheathen2 godo as it can be, it's ufnny, i gave my mom a little six cell seed tray with beef steak sprouts way earlier in spring, and she left them in the cells for ages, these plants are way younger than hers, and doing a lot better.
