    Sending this public to evangelize JS8 to a wider audience. I think it's a mode fedihams would do well to get behind. A few of us have been kicking the tires lately and like it a lot. The talk group we have been using is @FEDI

    Because JS8Call is cross platform and open source we can hack to our heart's delight. It also has a TCP API we can use to create all manner of connecting software. JS8 BBS? Why not?

    Please boost!

      @n6cta I have used and enjoyed JS8, but as someone who types much much faster than the JS8 symbol rate, I'm a little dubious about its use for interactive applications like a BBS. That might just be me, though. I type fast, so I'm a bit wordy, and then feel bad for using so many transmit cycles. I was going to suggest a use for encapsulating short messages...basically APRS over JS8, but I see that's already a thing.

      @ftg @n6cta When I think of large message store and forward, I think of PACTOR and the Winlink system. I wonder if a ham FIDONET could be built on a similar stack. Framing long messages on a weak signal format designed for short and ephemeral band openings just feels like a square peg in a round hole. For keyboard chats it's fine but anything larger feels like it's pushing it.

      I wasa FIDONET kid, and I can confirm it felt magic at the time.

      @roadriverrail @n6cta
      The bit rate and message length sure is more tweet/mastodon message size and less BBS or forum posting.

      But a Fidonet style store and forward network of JS8 BBSes might be neat.
      Maybe because both ware before my time.

      @f4grx @n6cta Isn't JS8 "inspired by" K1JT and not really a K1JT mode?

      @roadriverrail @n6cta All K1JT modes are made to hunt DXes, not for normal digital communication.
