I want to get out ahead of this before it becomes too much of a politically heated question -
I am inclined to think that you should be able to be elected to office from prison. Is that the standard view among leftists? Among liberals?

And I would agree conditionally with your view, when we do the exception to someone sitting for frauding the public and crimes affecting several people.

The person will not have access enough to deal with concerns of voters which does give an unfair disadvantage,
second exception: at least in my country there are exceptions, when you can hold an office, and I think of things like mass-polluting the environment, war crimes or infrastructure hazards against communities. This does not make someone fit DURING the sentence to be in the office from my perspective.
