   I finally made the decision. I canceled Spotify. I liked the Spotify user experience, , but its gotten worse with recent UI updates.

   I am sticking with YouTube premium even with the price hike, because I spend so much time watching videos there. So I'll use YouTube Music as I need to.

   Outside of work, I spend most of my time listening to my digital music collection with PlexAmp, or enjoying physical media.

   I'm not sure if I can update playlist with Spotify Free, so if not, my Top 100s will not be compiled there anymore. I will be working on getting them on to YT Music. ^^

     @gnitro I came from Songza, which was eaten by G Play Music, which became YT Music. Tried YTM for a several months, expecting them to fix things up eventually - they were new - but really disliked the navigational mess with which they seemed content. Ended up switching to Spotify for a much cleaner experience.

     Someone recently told me though that YTM had improved this. Is it an overall good, easy-to-use experience now? Would you recommend it or is it more of a preference thing?

     @askDNA It's gotten better, but my biggest complaint is that I can't hide YouTube video playlists on YT Music... I want to keep that separate, or at least have the option to hide them.

     I think the experience when adding songs to playlists has gotten better. If I'm working on a single playlist, every time I click to Add to Playlist it autoselects the last one I was working on.

     Still needs to be a bit more user friendly... but with the talk of Spotify also increasing prices, I'm not paying for 2, and YT video ad free is more important, so I'll use the music sub there as a bonus.

     Also, didn't know Spotify is going to increase in price again. :(

     To be honest, I cancelled all my subscription services except Spotify early this year.

     I have a private server for my old mp3s and wav files (of which there are many) and I use Bandcamp more than anything, really, but dang it! There's just no substitute for instantly calling up virtually any song in recorded history, instantly.

     That said, the cheapest will likely win my favour, so maybe I should give YT another look. Haha!

     @askDNA Yeah, Spotify has been hinting at a price crease for months. And supposedly trying to do a HiFi tier for almost $20 which is wild.

     I'm with you on Bandcamp. I buy a lot there. Outside of work I began using my personal collection on a NAS with Plexamp on my phone a few months back. So I only need the streaming service for work, and YT Music works well enough for what I need.

     Plexamp has been the one true god send.

     @gnitro @askDNA On the surface this is annoying, but it’s been $10 for so many years. I thought about switching to Qobuz but I highly doubt they offer something as good as Discover Weekly and Release Radar. Plexamp has been awesome but serves a completely different purpose. Moving off streaming or to a different platform means needing to do actual work for discovery. Unthinkable!

     @gnitro I thought about canceling Spotify as currently I pay for both YT Premium and Spotify, but at least for me YT Music is slow compared to Spotify.

     It's probably because of cache. The Spotify desktop app on my PC has over 11GB of cache to speed up, I can scroll to the end of a playlist with 500 songs and listen to the last song very fast.

     YT Music doesn't even have an official desktop app, but the unofficial YT Music desktop app which is the most popular doesn't have any cache or way to download the songs, so it becomes slow compared to Spotify. It takes MINUTES to scroll the same playlist with 500 songs.

     @speckledlemon @askDNA I 100% get it. Spotify is the best user experience in my opinion... but I'm sacrificing that because I watch way too much K-Pop stuff on actual YouTube to give up the ad-free experience there lol

     @diogovalentte Yeah I hate the lack of a YT Music player unless you use Chrome, which I don't, or unofficial ones.

     I didn't want to leave Spotify, but I care more about the YouTube no ad experience than spotify... so I will deal with YT Music lol

     @speckledlemon @askDNA Yeah they have the emails, but I check out their front page once a week, since they usually have good posts recommending stuff. I always save stuff for my wishlist for the next Bandcamp Friday. Which is SOON

     @speckledlemon @gnitro Yes. I have such a love/hate relationship with streamers for this reason. It is pretty cheap, instant access to music is practically a modern miracle that I take for granted now. As a musician, myself, though, I hate it so much. You pretty much HAVE to be there (and Google, and Apple, and all the others), essentially for free - just another in a long history of ways artists get screwed over.

     Wish I could convince myself to just give it up and stick to Bandcamp or, better yet, direct from artists.

     @askDNA @gnitro Oh no, I can see it. It’s one of the reasons I (and probably many others) like Bandcamp: we know it’s at least a little better for artists.

     I keep forgetting they also have a more traditional form of discovery: those weekly “best of” articles. They’d post links to them on their Twitter and I vaguely remember getting them via email too.

     @askDNA @speckledlemon I've bought a lot of collections when they were cheap... And Groupees has music bundles with bandcamp codes. Sadly Groupees is a bloated mess now.
