   I'm not saying there weren't good titles after the early arcade era, but I do think the there was something special about the extreme hardware limitations of that era. It forced developers to really think outside the box. Plus, no one knew what kids would play. There wasn't a fixed market or style. So there was more experimentation too. This happens in a lot of areas of life. Experimentation / exploration eventually leads to formalism.

     I should add that I only retrograme too. Anything from Fairchild Channel F to PS2. I even played Adventure for the 2600 with my kids a few weeks ago.

     @Humpleupagus @gh0st1984 @eisai I was messing around the other day with an atari 7800 emulator. If atari had released that thing in 84 instead of 86 when nintendo had the marlet sewn up, things might look very different today.

     Nintendo had a solid game. They were always slightly behind Sega on release if I recall, but seemed to always have a stronger product and marketing (though there's always the Master System vs. NES spec debate).
     
     The TG16 is another system that should have been far more popular in the states. I had one. That thing was awesome. I preferred the cards to the large clunky carts the other systems used.

     @Humpleupagus @gh0st1984 @eisai the weird hardware made it a bit of PITA to develop for, and the lateness of its release meant it did not attract much developer interest, so few games ever reached the potential of the hardware. But imagine if this game had dropped in 1984...

     The Amiga was a solid platform. The CD32 had a six bottom controller.
     
     TG16 used a six button setup for SF2. Run and A and B would switch from punches to kicks by hitting select.

     The TG16 (PCE) was a solid system. I personally think it was superior to the SNES and Genesis (I am not a Genesis fan BTW. I always though it looked like shit next to a SNES), but Nintendo and Sega had more titles.

     Nice. I still find retroarch a bit of a ball ache and use individual emus for each system. I should stop being lazy and learn.
     
     I should get an amiga on too, I loved some of those games. if I can find the psygnosis back catalogue no one would see me for a month 🤓
