I passionately hate neighborhoods that lock their trash bins. I will litter in your neighborhood without guilt.

@tomterl "don't litter" burdens the individual, "put easily accessible trash bins in public places" burdens society. Much better to burden society; it actually works. Anyway let me know what street you live on so I can pitch this empty can into your yard?

@drewdevault meant for general household-waste of the people living in the area?
Highly area depenend if a lock is ok or not (in parts of the larger city here, an open trash-bin for a bigger house kept unlocked would mean it would be filled with old kitchen-parts and carpets after the first night - although stuff like this would be taken in free of charge, and can be taken to a recycle-center free of charge for private housholds; people are strange sometimes)
still no excuse to litter :) -

@Bahadir @tomterl the locked trash bins in question are underground trash receptacles managed by the city.

@tomterl @drewdevault it's not even just trash. I have had people throw in their dog's poppy bag in my trash bin multiple times. The thing is they don't tie it as well when it's not their trash bin and it opens with the fall. I probably don't have to explain how hard it is to clean dog shit from the bottom of my trash bin.

@drewdevault can't respect that; as if that is always the choice of the people living there, and as if littering would only concern the people living there, not also the environment/animals in a bigger circle - take your waste with you and recycle at home.
Because this is the kind of excuse everyone littering has (there was no bin right there, what was I supposed to do?) - don't excuse wrong behaviour with others wrong behaviour, you're not in the position to educate at a distance with this
