I think it’s maybe because it’s harder to find instantaneous engaging content here and it ends up feeling like it’s a little bit too much work to be here. While ‘over there’ the algorithm, which is pretty awful right now, but when it did work helped provide the content that was very engaging to me as a user. Just thinking out loud…

All you can do is set filters (or is that notifications? I forget) for keywords of interest to you and hope that some post gets caught by them like flies in a cobweb.

I think you mean my other accounts @FediFollows (for recommended follows) and @FediGarden (for recommended servers)?

I'm confused.
I have a search button, just clicked and searched using the word 'search' and got the following...It's not a sophisticated search system. Possibly varies between instance.
This is with Mastodon App.

If you search by keyword, it usually shows posts you have liked or written yourself.
However, this system seems to be somewhat flaky :/

By the way, the reason only hashtags are allowed in searches is largely a safety feature, it's to make it harder for trolls to find victims.
By using hashtags, people are opting into their posts being discovered for certain topics.
Not everyone agrees with this approach as it does make it more difficult for new people who are used to general text searches.
