   Please do not:
   - argue with them on a public thread so that I see bigotry that targets me in my feed

   I understand that "drawing out the poison" is sometimes necessary to get a good report, but these tools usually have pretty incriminating post histories.

     Unfortunately it looks like the migration from Reddit to lemmy has brought some trolls and bigots along with it.

     That's fine. We know how to deal with racists, antisemites, and queerphobes here. When rats come into your house you don't swordfight them - you kill 'em or toss 'em outside.

     related...you don't have to accept follow requests from anyone. Just now I declined a guy in fintech- (look at my fucking history dude) and dudebro felt it perfectly acceptable to request again. I declined again. He tried a third time. I reported his ass and blocked him.

     @tess Just for the benefit of anyone who's never blocked another person:

     1. During the reporting process, you get the chance to report multiple posts, not just the last one. As Dana says, there's rarely a need to get people to incriminate themselves further.

     2. The other person is not copied into your report and doesn't know who sent it (or even, necessarily, that a report was sent). This won't open you up to abuse.
