@PhenomX6 Oh yea, I totally forgot about flat/material/metro design, now that the design fad has shifted back to transparency blur again. I really hated the flat design push, but I don't mind the transparency blur, as that one is actually pretty nice.
@ryo@PhenomX6 Something worse than that "design" (more like lack of design) is the fact that people are actually brainwashed enough that they pretended that it looks good, even though it looks like fucking nothing and it has no texture and it's a piece of shit you could draw in Paint in 10 seconds. Every theme for anything on any other OS looks exactly like Windows 10. That's how mindfucked people are.
@TerminalAutism@PhenomX6 Brainwashing can get you to accept literally anything. I'm convinced that if you'd brainwash the entire world population into believing that poop smells great, they'll line up in droves to buy perfume that literally smells like poop.
Several things happened in 2013 or so: Scott Forstall (the guy behind Aqua and that iconic design language along with iOS) was pushed out of Apple and Ive (the hardware designer) was made responsible. This led to the drastic design language shift of iOS 7, which was divisive but instantly became the trendy style because it's apple and was different and new.
One year later Google pushed out Material Design to Android that did the same thing and the rest is history. This was more dramatic on the Android front because Android 5 on new phones was vastly faster than the older versions thanks to finally forcing phones to use ART as opposed to dalvik so it really made a big splash.
@PhenomX6@TerminalAutism@ryo At this point I wish that indie devs would deliberately ape the PC98's style properly. Only games off the top of my head that come close are VA11 HALL-A and its unreleased sequel. It would be even more killer if devs pulled an Etrian Odyssey and composed their soundtracks for the YM2203
@RaidouKuzunohaLXIX@TerminalAutism@ryo At some point I want to fuck around with MS-DOS programming and PC-98 wouldn't be out of the question, especially since thanks to Dosbox-X or Freedos for the PC-98 you can legally redistribute a PC-98 game with zero NEC/MS bios/font/OS code or assets.
@PhenomX6@RaidouKuzunohaLXIX@ryo I have to play more PC-98 games. I have even had a pretty complete collection for a while. Only haven't because I tried an emulator and it didn't work. What did work properly was anex86 running in Wine, but doing that feels a little silly. There's also the "I can play it in Japanese eventually" curse that I have been under for many years. I'll be able to read any year now. Any decade now. Any century now. Doesn't apply to shmups and platformers, though.
