   @ummjackson It's not redundant because otherwise it would be impossible to tell the difference between a handle and an e-mail address. There's already a convention of writing social media handles with a @ in front.

     Personally not a fan of the @username@instance.tld format that the fediverse uses... especially the @ at the beginning, which is entirely redundant.

     Much prefer the simple instance.tld/@username format.
