   If you (or your employer) own an official website, you can verify your account on Mastodon as official. You insert some specific HTML code into your own site, which makes your Mastodon profile's site link turn green.

   The guide also includes many troubleshooting tips if the link won't turn green.

   One other thing to note: it's a bad idea to use third party verification services, as these are often used to fake verifications.

     I’ve come across a few Mastodon profiles with a verified Github URL but wasn’t sure how it works. I’ll look into the subdomain setup!

     I think github might automatically use the rel="me" HTML option if you add a link to your Mastodon profile? If so, you don't need to add any special HTML.

     rel="me" was supposed to be the standard way to verify your account on other platforms, and if it had happened that way we wouldn't need to insert special bits of HTML on websites. Unfortunately Facebook and Twitter decided not to use it, perhaps they didn't like people being on other platforms?

     @siddhantgoel @feditips I don’t know of a way to do that directly but you could spin up a quick and dirty github.io site and add the <a> verification element there. Then you can at least verify that you own myusername.github.io which is functionally equivalent to verifying your account.
