I guess it could still happen, it's promising that they have left that in the app
I don't think the author articulated it well, but I took it to mean given that Threads had such a good first week, they may be reconsidering that they need to federate at all (skipping the first two E's in Embrace, Extend, Extinguish). After all, I doubt the average Threads user gives a shit about fedi
@BronzeAgeHogCranker Article was an interesting read, and I don't totally disagree. But it's obvious to me that ActivityPub is already integrated into the design of the application. They said it "wasn't finished" but they're lying. They have ActivityPub support already completely done and just got cold feet enabling it at launch.
@Bad_Banner@BronzeAgeHogCranker I bet the only part that isn't finished is the moderation side, specifically dealing with spam attacks and bots from remote servers. The actual federation part is done.
@realcaseyrollins@BronzeAgeHogCranker It's just what I believe, based on the fact I built an ActivityPub server from scratch (Mostr bridge) with all the bells and whistles in 2 weeks. It's actually not that hard to do. I believe Meta is fully capable of it, and if they were planning to do it it would be done by now. Also, there are thoughtful design elements on the site geared towards federation. They've been planning this.
@alex Alex, since zuckerdouche is doing some kind of fedi thing, how long you think until Musk tries to somehow integrate twitter? How difficult would that be?
@morgthorak In a way, I respect Zuck for how he launched this project. While Elon was making himself the center of attention, Zuck was practicing the blade.
