@bhawthorne @chargrille Yeah agree. I've actually taught some of these (some of the home repair stuff and spreadsheets) as part of other classes to middle schoolers and I think that's the better age.

Erin Conroy (chargrille@progressives.social)'s status on Monday, 10-Jul-2023 06:26:05 JST Erin Conroy Our home ec & shop classes were first taught to us in middle school. I'm not sure if high school taught them at all. I don't remember, but I don't think so.
Saluting you, Brian! They actually wouldn't let me take shop unless I also took home ec. That was their "compromise."

Erin Conroy (chargrille@progressives.social)'s status on Monday, 10-Jul-2023 06:33:01 JST Erin Conroy I was in WA. Wisconsin was more progressive back then on women's liberation and many other areas of governance & public life. The Wisconsin idea!

Erin Conroy (chargrille@progressives.social)'s status on Monday, 10-Jul-2023 06:46:50 JST Erin Conroy The Universe bless our hippie parents (and their friends). I did a bunch of organizing/activism in Portland during the Trump regime and they were still reliable volunteers for progressive (and therefore Democratic) activism & canvassing.

Unions, progressive policies. All feels very much washed away. My hippie WI parents are still out there canvasing for progressive causes though.
