   one really infuriating thing about israel is its attempts to subsume all jewish identities into a singular, very ashkenazi israeli national identity
   the culture and languages of many jewish communities have been all but destroyed due to immigration and assimilation into israel
   and like, israel doesn't do any effort to preserve these cultures, intentionally so! again, yiddish was pretty much illegal in israel until the 90s

     @chjara I don't know enough about this, but I thought culture and language wise the Sephardim won over the Ashkenazim

     the israeli language was constructed, a planned modernization of biblical hebrew, with a lot of yiddish influences
     and the national jewish culture is also, a mix of the two, but also mostly ashkenazi, since like most immigrants to early israel were ashkenazi
