     @mementomaori I think about this a lot. The Yurok Tribe officially recognized the legal personhood of the Klamath River in Northern California not long after that, but state and federal courts have yet to acknowledge it.

     Animism won't become a "fact" until white institutions "discover" it (if they manage to do that before finishing their work of destroying Mother Earth).

     The funny thing is when white people say that people factually are animals, but in the same breath will say that #Indigenous people "BELIEEEEVE" in the personhood of animals.

     While these philosophies are grounded in the same scientific facts (which were old news to NDNs by the time Darwin came around), one enables the destruction of nature and each other, while the other protects life.
