discussion about game genre is fascinating to me. at some point i'd love to make a consistent table for classifying games.

@bleedingphoenix It gets complicated because I see why they're all classified as "action games".
I think Gaming could potentially have 2 genres for each game.
One describing the gameplay type and one describing the overall tone of the game.
Example is "Black OPS=FPS, action"
whereas "Resident Evil 7=FPS, horror"
But it does get complicated really quickly.
I've heard some people try to claim Mario is an RPG because you're playing in the roll of Mario which is something I definitely disagree with but I kind of see how they ended up with that conclusion.

@Killred40 @bleedingphoenix by that logic almost every game is an rpg and the genre distinction becomes meaningless

example of interesting classification:
Mobygames classifies Black Ops, Devil May Cry 5, and Ghostrunner as action games, whereas I'd consider only Devil May Cry 5 an action game (CoD is a shooter, Ghostrunner is a platformer). gaming has a pretty new medium, so organizing them is still a soft science.

@Killred40 @bleedingphoenix i wouldn't even be able to give you a good definition of rpg becuase it's become a bti muddied due to character progression systems becoming common across all genres and shit BUT like i know what a baseline rpg should be in essence, also love me jrpgs classic ones, simple as.

@Zealist @bleedingphoenix Yeah, I don't agree with it.
