   This is a 50p that was minted to celebrate the UK joining what became the EU. It was minted in my birth year, and my mum gave it to me shortly before she died of cancer in 2021. It is one of my most treasured possessions.

   It has 12 hands linked in a circle to symbolise the then 12 countries of the European Community. One of them is smaller, representing the hand of Queen Elizabeth II.

     @goatsarah pretty sure we had this one - only it got stolen along with our foreign coin collection (wasn’t worth much, just keepsakes). Nice to hear the story behind it cos I didn’t know.

     In that time European Community was nice and make us dreamed.
     Now it has changed. No democraty only neoliberalism. Only Rich and poor people are less than nothing. My dream now is that EU colapse and people win and democraty will be back
