Unpopular opinion: Mastodon is always going to be too much work to have the kind of mass appeal that your twitters or blueskys do. I'm not saying that to denigrate; it's just a fact that the vast mass of users don't want to have to work very hard to understand and operationalize computer systems. They'll realize that Mastodon takes work to make it content-rich and they'll go somewhere that can hire people to do that work for them.

I feel bad about it but there it is is.

Perhaps the best solution is to have a general account on an established medium where you post your broadest thoughts, while having another more private space for your more potent and controversial beliefs and personal rants. And, be careful to separate the two and not get them confused.
