   I think that it's wild how so much of the United States has memory holed the fact that the Republican Party tried to push a ban on Muslims back in 2017.

     YES. And how we’ve memory-holed the severity of the post-9/11 Islamophobia. I was horrified by it at the time, clearly remember being horrified, and was •still• shocked at the brazen bigotry when I saw a collection of “best of US political cartoons” from 2002.
