   #TwitterMigration y’all.. can I change servers after I’ve already posted!? How do I know what server to pick!? And what is #fediverse !? So many questions honestly

     Hey there Cara, welcome! 👋

     You can change servers, you can move accounts while keeping your followers and follows. (However, if you've only just got started it's a lot easier to just set up a new account and don't bother doing the transfers.)

     If you choose a server from https://joinmastodon.org/servers or https://fedi.garden you should be okay, as all of them have promised to uphold certain standards of reliablity and responsible moderation.

     The Fediverse is what you are on right now, it's a collection of lots of servers talking to each other. You and I are on different servers, but we are able to have this conversation because the servers are connected.

     Most servers on the Fediverse run a piece of software called Mastodon, but some of them run other kinds of software.

     However, all these different types of server communicate seamlessly with a common standard, so it ends up feeling like one network.
