“But the brain does much more than just recollect it inter-compares, it synthesizes, it analyzes, it generates abstractions. The simplest thought like the concept of the number one has an elaborate logical underpinning. The brain has its own language for testing the structure and consistency of the world.”
— Carl Sagan

Matthew Lyon (mattly@hachyderm.io)'s status on Friday, 30-Jun-2023 02:16:24 JST Matthew Lyon @RuthMalan it neatly encapsulates a lot of the thoughts I’ve had about how the brain processes information, that stemmed from learning how to draw, going through art school, and building out tools for working with information.
Our brains are constantly making maps of the territory (models of reality) but it’s not a conscious process, so after a while we start pretending the symbols on the map are real things and not just abstractions we use to help make sense of the universe
