Is there a consensus best VPN service to use for torrenting (for a 24/7 home seedbox)? I want to see some, uh, Linux distros.

Viss (viss@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 29-Jun-2023 12:04:38 JST Viss @adamconover mullvad says they're torrent friendly, but if you're even halfway good at linux cmdline, you could nab the wireguard roadwarrior shellscript from github, its a one shot script to create any 5 dollar vps you can setup anywhere into a wireguard endpoint.
also, so long as you're using private trackers it shouldnt be a big deal. (i may have a couple invites kicking around)

Adam Conover (adamconover@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 29-Jun-2023 12:16:29 JST Adam Conover Sorry, I should have added: For torrenting, I need port forwarding, and split tunneling because I also want to run a Plex server. So not every service will work (for instance, Mullvad offers neither on Macs)

Joé McKen (joemcken@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 29-Jun-2023 13:01:21 JST Joé McKen @adamconover I use, and highly recommend, Private Internet Access. Supports both OpenVPN & WireGuard, a strict no-logging policy proven twice in court, is very torrent-friendly, supports port-forwarding and split-tunneling, has a killswitch, various proxy options, etc. There are various “ideal PIA settings for torrenting apps” guides you can look up.

Biohazard (biohazardous@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 29-Jun-2023 13:58:04 JST Biohazard I understand that Qbitorrent for downloading files and PIA (Private Internet Access) for the VPN can do that. The Plex server traffic is encrypted, and I think it's best to run the server on a separate machine. But have PIA on the machine you're running Qbittorrent or your other torrent handler on, and copy completed files over to the server through your LAN. Programs like Sonarr and Radarr can even automate that process.

be3n (be3n@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 29-Jun-2023 14:13:43 JST be3n @adamconover raspberry pi make great seed boxes. (about to be available again) you can tune the firewall to fail closed and not allow any non-local connections but thru the VPN. port fwd for seeding is handled thru the vpn. web based connection to control. SMB/NFS connection to file/plex server. download directly or move them automatically when they are done. hit me up if you need one until stocks improve.

𝕔𝕙𝕣𝕚𝕤 𝕠𝕧𝕖𝕣𝕔𝕒𝕤𝕙 (covercash@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 29-Jun-2023 22:38:26 JST 𝕔𝕙𝕣𝕚𝕤 𝕠𝕧𝕖𝕣𝕔𝕒𝕤𝕙 @adamconover are you boycotting streaming services during the strike? Looking for media that’s no longer or has never been available on streamers? Or is this for other things like games or apps?
If it’s for media consumption, I’m a big fan of having someone else to do the dirty work and paying ~$15/mo for a Plex/Emby/Jellyfin share. No need for a VPN there… -
