   Aha! Minneapolis Public Schools itself has answered the question that’s been burning for me ever since the legislative session ended:

   The changes to school funding increase district revenue by 6.3%:

   About 40% of that increase comes from the state covering 44% of the special ed cross-subsidy. (It should cover 100%, grumble grumble…but I’ll take the win here.)

     This is in the context of Minneapolis Public Schools receiving only 78% of merely •adequate• funding for its needs:

     We’d need a 28% increase to reach adequacy. We got 6%. And COVID aid is ending.

     So as amazing as the state legislature’s work on ed funding was, it’s look more like a lifeline than a Minnesota miracle.

     I am not an accountant, so somebody please correct me if I’m putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with 22 in that analysis!

     @inthehands As encouraging as that extra funding is, I’d like to see the feds stepping up to address the SpEd cross subsidy. Special Education is mostly a federal mandate and should properly be funded at that level. The state is essentially covering for them (at least partially).
