@evan that question does not make sense to me because I can live in my own little corner of the fediverse and not federate with any other corners that I won't want to see. Right? Or did I miss something important?

So the reach would be from the site I am on (for example,. social,coop) to somebody who is on another site that federates with social.coop and who then mentions me in some way to somebody on another site that federates with their site but not social.coop?
