I swear to fucking christ we're all going to go off the side of a cliff in a burning Winnebago and SOME of you are gonna be really concerned that I'm cackling; that's YOUR coping mechanism too - you're doing it because you too, are powerless to stop the fall. But you might be able to exert some sort of power over me, and that makes you feel better about your place in a world you don't really understand and you're just starting to figure out is quite hostile to you.

I mean I concede your general point but "don't makes jokes guys, we coulda been nuked" has been true every single waking moment of every single day since at LEAST 1952 and quite a bit before that depending on your geographical location. Sometimes people makes jokes in the face of existential terror, particularly what we call "black humor," because it's a valid coping mechanism when we're more or less powerless to do anything about the shit that is terrifying us - it works, and it's okay, and you don't really need to tell people not to do it because newsflash? They been doing it since the dawn of the species and they are not going to stop.
