I think it's a smart choice of words, speaking ill of him in a public setting would be risky.

From the article it's quite clear to me that he knew it was a matter of time.

"We have heard the baseless cries of 'you are going to kill someone' way too often," he wrote. "I take this as a serious personal insult."

This is a very unfortunate quote. Ego. Big big ego.
