Does anyone really think that mini sub took a full container of air?

Guaranteed they saved some money by not filling it every time.

It's a sealed vessel. You don't take very much air; it's a closed loop and you use a co2 scrubber -- the air gets reused. They only had

It's not that they "run out of air" so much as they "run out of scrubber".

This is also what rebreather divers do to allow them to stay underwater for very long periods of time.

Honestly they're dead from hypothermia long before they run out of scrubber. How long can you last at 5C in your normal clothes?

A debris field has been found near the Titanic during search for submersible, US Coast Guard says
The U.S. Coast Guard says a debris field has been found near the Titanic as rescuers search for a missing submersible that was en route to the ship's wreckage. The Coast Guard did not say in its tweet Thursday whether officials believe the debris is connected to the Titan vessel. Officials said it was discovered within the search area by a remotely operated underwater robot. Also Thursday, the critical 96-hour mark passed when breathable air on the vessel could have run out. The vessel was estimated to have about a four-day supply when it launched Sunday morning in the North Atlantic.

yeah 96 was the limit for ~5 people assuming they didn't forget to put new scrubber material in haha

      But they're dead anyway

@feld is 96 hours the expected limit on the scrubbeer?

My assumption is just that they are not refilling the consumables every time because it’s cheaper to not.

I didn't even think it had a window. I haven't spent a lot of time looking at the specs but everyone was making fun of it for not having a window I thought? lol

@feld That was my first guess I just didn’t want to be fatalistic in the window of hope.

My first comment out of it was the window didn’t take into account the prnny pinching these guys seem to do. 😀

@feld I meant the window of time in which they might be alive. Although I think it had a window that wasn't rated for 4,000m.
