   why would Meta want to join Fedi? that's against their proprietary business model. and Fedi is too marginal to do the embrace and extinguish thing.

     Because fedi is so fringe, they may just take over existing fedi projects (by making them not suck). They know they’re losing users so they’ll parasitise where they think ppl are moving to.
