oops just another maddie (mjdxp@snowdin.town)'s status on Sunday, 18-Jun-2023 07:30:48 JST oops just another maddie spent the last few hours trying to install lineageOS on my fire tv stick 3rd gen
i ran into a bunch of problems, most notably i didn't have a way to control the recovery image. the remote didn't work, trying to use a USB hub to connect a keyboard didn't work, but eventually i learned you can use adb shell to control the recovery image.
i successfully loaded the image, and when i rebooted i was presented with a screen saying lineageOS was looking for bluetooth devices to pair with. i put my fire tv remove into pair mode, and while it showed up on the menu, it ended up stuck trying to connect. i tried pairing the remote to my phone, and it worked, so i'm not sure what was happening.
i tried plugging in the USB hub again to use a keyboard and mouse to get through setup, hoping that they would work. they did, however it didn't last long. when i tried to connect to the wifi network, it froze up on the password input screen. i'm guessing it crashed or something. i rebooted and skipped connecting to the network, hoping it'd work later. i got through setup, and finally got to the main UI.
except, when i tried to go into the app list, it crashed again. i also tried going into the settings, but it crashed on the wifi password screen again. at this point i just gave up. i have no clue why it was so unstable. i don't think there are any other custom roms for the fire tv 3rd gen and i don't want to subject myself to fireOS, so i guess this is just a paperweight now
tl;dr everything went horribly wrong- THE pleroma-tan enjoyer likes this.

oops just another maddie (mjdxp@snowdin.town)'s status on Sunday, 18-Jun-2023 07:33:41 JST oops just another maddie this is the first time i've actually ever tried to load a custom rom onto a device, pretty much every other device i've wanted to do it with was either incompatible or i didn't want to risk bricking it, but now i kind of want to try installing it on my old moto g7 power, it was my daily driver from early 2020 to late 2022, and i really liked that phone, it could be fun to try and get some new life into it THE pleroma-tan enjoyer likes this.
