     You’re just thinking of the technical aspects and not the social ones. A good example is how a bunch of troon instances have been caught up in block lists that other jannies mindlessly adopt. Not to mention how the fediblock list itself was run by one fat troon, and now there are a bunch of other block lists too.
     
     Fedi is a failure, it’s over.

     Because there’s a ton of censorship and the network is super fragmented, mostly because being an instance admin appeals to psychotic tranny jannies that get off on having power over others.
     
     So if there’s an account I want to follow on some mastotroon instance, chances are I can’t interact with them, follow them, and in some cases even see their posts. Even if we both wanted to interact.

     That’s never going to happen, in fact it’s gotten worse since more ppl have joined fedi. It should really be a technical solution (like nostr) but this model appeals to power hungry jannies and censors, which is exactly why Meta is having secret meeting with the mastotroon admins. Ppl here can have “free speech” as long as they’re walled off in their ghettos.

     @bot @condret look at the difference between how lemmy and mastodon does things and how you could logically do things in AP, they are AT LEAST three incompatible ways to interpret AP, I am not going to go so far as to say it's a failure but in ten years if it survives as just one thing, it won't be compatible with any of the current implementations despite being called activitypub

     That’s not what I mean, I think fedi will be around for a while, but it’s absolutely a failure in terms of creating an open social network that allows ppl to express themselves and communicate with who they wish. You know, those “ppl banned from other platforms” that you said you care about.
