I think I found why incest is such a common theme in anime and hentai: Izanagi and Izanami in the Shinto origin myth were brother and sister, who had a lot of offspring together. Back then it wasn't known that incest is unhealthy, so in the myth the fact that the first child went wrong is falsely attributed to Izanami, the woman, speaking right before sex. -

@ken@shigusegubu.club i don't think you can point it to that alone, since with that logic, pretty much all of europe would have the same common occurrence of incest in media :blobcatshrug:

@ken@shigusegubu.club its fairly similar in greek mythology (see zeus) and in christian fairy tale (see adam and eve and later noah). its really not that uncommon that origin stories include or imply incestious acts of the central characters in the stories in most mythologies.
i mean, its kinda logical because if you don't want it to be incest, then you'd have to admit that the claimed original character (or characters) can't be the sole origin -

@puniko ok i don't know that much about those tbh, but izanagi and izanami seem more central to me as they are the origin of the sun god amaterasu and the japanese king if i remember correctly
