     @NeonPurpleStar because hardware folks don’t understand software ecosystems and as a result, Si and board vendors think a hacked up linux kernel with garbage code that can never be upstreamed is just 100% fine

     ( software folks also don’t understand hardware at all generally, so it evens out )

     @6a62 i have tried explaining downstream kernels to some of my friends, and how the phones they buy have an expiration date because of that
     
     it stuns me how little it matters! if put enough enough buzzwords in a commercial, the worst of software practices are justified for the profits

     @NeonPurpleStar its depressing, but mobile stuff specifically is a shit market to be in frankly. margins can be tight at the low end, competition is fierce and the market has come to expect this stupid breakneck pace of yearly iteration and releases

     so it becomes “we don’t have time to care, just get it working in time for release” and then immediately its on to the next thing
