   Is it just me, or has there been a quiet renaissance in movies the past year? I have heard of more brilliant, original, and excellent movies released in the last year than I have in the last 2 decades.

     @Sophistifunk Top gun, yes I forgot that. But I was trying to list things that were completely original and avant garde. Top gun is the opposite.

     @ned meh, my heuristic for movies these days is to listen to 'the critical drinker' on youtube, so I know most stuff sucks and I save time and energy not watching it.
