     Maybe it happens all the time on DVD? I've never bought a series on DVD.

     @clacke More often than you'd think. They often cut a few minutes from episodes to make room for ad breaks, especially in the US. DVD releases sometimes have the full versions, as might broadcasts in countries that require more programming than ads on their TV channels.
