    Here are some #English words with a different meaning/usage in #PhilippineEnglish

    1. salvage. It means extrajudicial killing.

    2. bold. It means nude; often associated with porn.

    3. comfort room or C.R. This is your “restroom” (also abbreviated as “R.R.”), “toilet”, or “lavatory”.

    4. haggard. Police on motorcycles.

    5. calling card. The same as a business card.

    6. commute. The use of public transportation.

    7. maniac (pronounced as man·nyak not mey·nyak). A pervert.

    8. motel. Love hotel or sex hotel. You should use “inn”, “BnB”, or “lodging” if a love hotel is not what you meant. Although, there are motels with family rooms. Still…

    9. apartment. Houses that looks identical and are only separated by a shared firewall.

    10. condo, condominiums. Refers to homes on high rise buildings. If you are from Korea, you call this an “apartment”.

    11. condotel. A low-rise condominium that only rent units like in a hotel.

    12. computer shop. An internet café. In the 90s and early 2000s, it was originally called LAN café, iCafé, computer rentals.

    13. rugby. Rubber cement.

    14. rugby boys/girls. Young kids who are addicted to the smell of rugby (see #13). These kids are high, avoid and report them if you see them, even during broad daylight. (Even us locals avoid them.)

    15. carnap/carnapping. Vehicle theft.

    16. civilian clothes. Casual clothing.

    17. plainclothes. This is the word that refers to officers hiding among the crowd.

    18. nosebleed. When one is having difficulty conversing in English (or another language) with another person. (Similar to the Japanese anime nosebleed, though the usage/context is different.)

    19. scotch tape. Adhesive tape. Originally a trademark of 3M.

    20. xerox. Photocopy. Originally a trademark of, well, Xerox. They lost their trademark for it in the Philippines.
