    Why does GitHub make it impossible to just GET A FREAKING PATCH from a commit on the web UI????

    Oh, right, because they're a centralized capitalist platform and want to lock me into using them and don't _want_ me using git directly.

    I should just move all of the #knightos repos onto sr.ht under a ~knightos user or something for now :/

      @pixelherodev This argument sounds backwards.

      I think github is detrimental to open source and wants to lock you in, and like the other comment says, I think they do offer you a proper diff if you know the undocumented URL, but as for the argument you're making:

      If they make you use git to get a proper diff, isn't that encouraging you rather than discouraging you from using git? It's when they offer functionality in the Web UI and discourage you from using git itself (like git's built-in PR functionality) that they're enhancing their lock-in.

      @clacke This is totes on me for not being clear >_>

      I meant that they were - or at least, I perceive them to be - trying to lock me into using their PR workflow, and not looking at the patches *at all*. I don't think they *want* people knowing that there *is* a way to do so without using their UI.

      @pixelherodev Yeah ok, that actually makes sense.

      They offer the actual git integration as a necessary public secret safety valve so experienced people can get work done and will use their service, but they won't advertise any transitional modes between full web and full git.
